New King James Version

4 Unstable as water, you shall not excel,
Because you (A)went up to your father’s bed;
Then you defiled it—
He went up to my couch.

5 “Simeon and Levi are brothers;
Instruments of [a]cruelty are in their dwelling place.
6 (B)Let not my soul enter their council;
Let not my honor be united (C)to their assembly;
(D)For in their anger they slew a man,
And in their self-will they [b]hamstrung an ox.

4 Turbulent as the waters,(A) you will no longer excel,
    for you went up onto your father’s bed,
    onto my couch and defiled it.(B)

5 “Simeon(C) and Levi(D) are brothers—
    their swords[a] are weapons of violence.(E)
6 Let me not enter their council,
    let me not join their assembly,(F)
for they have killed men in their anger(G)
    and hamstrung(H) oxen as they pleased.
