8 ¶ Thou Judah, thy brethren shall praise thee: thy hand shall be in the neck of thine enemies: thy father’s son shall [a]bow down before unto thee.
9 Judah as a Lion’s whelp shalt thou come up from the spoil, my son. He shall lie down and couch a Lion, and as a Lioness: [b]Who shall stir him up?
10 The [c]Sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a Lawgiver from between his feet, until [d]Shiloh come, and the people shall be gathered unto him.

9 You are a lion’s(D) cub,(E) Judah;(F)
you return from the prey,(G) my son.
Like a lion he crouches and lies down,
like a lioness—who dares to rouse him?
10 The scepter will not depart from Judah,(H)
nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet,[b]
until he to whom it belongs[c] shall come(I)
and the obedience of the nations shall be his.(J)
