⁷ The Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring^[a](A) I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the Lord who had appeared to him.

¹⁴ After Lot had separated from him, the Lord said to Abram, “Look from the place where you are. Look north and south, east and west,^{(A) 15} for I will give you and your offspring^[a] forever all the land that you see.^{(B) 16} I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth,^(C) so that if anyone could count the dust of the earth, then your offspring could be counted. ¹⁷ Get up and walk around the land, through its length and width, for I will give it to you.”

⁷ He also said to him, “I am the Lord who brought you from Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to possess.”^(A)

⁵ He didn’t give him an inheritance in it—not even a foot of ground—but he promised to give it to him as a possession, and to his descendants after him,^(A) even though he was childless.
