⁷ And the Lord ^(A)appeared to Abram and said, “^(B)To your ^[a]descendants I will give this land.” So he built ^(C)an altar there to the Lord who had appeared to him.

⁸ And ^(A)I will give to you and to your ^[a]descendants after you the land where you live as a stranger, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting possession; and ^(B)I will be their God.”

¹⁶ and said, “^(A)By Myself I have sworn, declares the Lord, because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only son, ¹⁷ indeed I will greatly bless you, and I will greatly ^(B)multiply your ^[a]seed as the stars of the heavens and as ^(C)the sand, which is on the seashore; and ^(D)your ^[b]seed shall possess the gate of ^[c]their enemies. ¹⁸ And ^(E)in your ^[d]seed all the nations of the earth shall ^[e]be blessed, because you have ^(F)obeyed My voice.”

¹⁷ What I am saying is this: the Law, which came ^(A)430 years later, does not invalidate a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to nullify the promise.
