⁸ And he moved from there to the mountain east of Bethel, and he pitched his tent with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; there he built an altar to the Lord and ^(A)called on the name of the Lord.

⁴ to the ^(A)place of the altar which he had made there at first. And there Abram ^(B)called on the name of the Lord.

³³ Then Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and ^(A)there called on the name of the Lord, ^(B)the Everlasting God.

⁹ Then they came to the place of which God had told him. And Abraham built an altar there and placed the wood in order; and he bound Isaac his son and ^(A)laid him on the altar, upon the wood.

²⁵ So he ^(A)built an altar there and ^(B)called on the name of the Lord, and he pitched his tent there; and there Isaac’s servants dug a well.

²⁰ Then he erected an altar there and called it ^(A)El^[a] Elohe Israel.

Jacob’s Return to Bethel

35 Then God said to Jacob, “Arise, go up to ^(A)Bethel and dwell there; and make an altar there to God, ^(B)who appeared to you ^(C)when you fled from the face of Esau your brother.”

¹⁵ And Moses built an altar and called its name, ^[a]The-Lord-Is-My-Banner;

²⁴ Then you call on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the Lord; and the God who ^(A)answers by fire, He is God.”

So all the people answered and said, ^[a]“It is well spoken.”
