¹⁸ On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying,

^24 (A)Every place on which the sole of your foot steps shall be yours; ^(B)your border will be from the wilderness to Lebanon, and from the river, the river Euphrates, as far as ^[a]the western sea.

⁴⁰ So Joshua struck all the land, ^(A)the hill country and the ^[a]Negev and the lowland and the slopes, and ^(B)all their kings. He left no survivor, but ^(C)he ^[b]utterly destroyed all who breathed, just as the Lord, the God of Israel, had commanded.
