²⁰ Then the Lord said, “The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is immense, and their sin is extremely serious. ²¹ I will go down^(A) to see if what they have done justifies the cry that has come up to me. If not, I will find out.”

⁷ Then the Lord said, “I have observed the misery of my people in Egypt, and have heard them crying out^(A) because of their oppressors. I know about their sufferings,

²³ If you do mistreat them, they will no doubt cry to me, and I will certainly hear their cry.^(A)

¹⁶ “At this time tomorrow I will send you a man from the land of Benjamin. Anoint him ruler over my people Israel.^(A) He will save them from the Philistines because I have seen the affliction of my people,^(B) for their cry has come to me.”
