³⁸ Esau said to his father, “Do you have only one blessing, my father? Bless me too, my father!” Then Esau wept aloud.^(A)

⁴ When the people heard these distressing words, they began to mourn^(A) and no one put on any ornaments.

⁶ Then an Israelite man brought into the camp a Midianite^(A) woman right before the eyes of Moses and the whole assembly of Israel while they were weeping^(B) at the entrance to the tent of meeting.

⁴⁵ You came back and wept before the Lord,^(A) but he paid no attention^(B) to your weeping and turned a deaf ear^(C) to you.

²³ The Israelites went up and wept before the Lord^(A) until evening,^(B) and they inquired of the Lord.^(C) They said, “Shall we go up again to fight^(D) against the Benjamites, our fellow Israelites?”

The Lord answered, “Go up against them.”

²⁶ Then all the Israelites, the whole army, went up to Bethel, and there they sat weeping before the Lord.^(A) They fasted^(B) that day until evening and presented burnt offerings^(C) and fellowship offerings^(D) to the Lord.^(E)

³² They buried Abner in Hebron, and the king wept^(A) aloud at Abner’s tomb. All the people wept also.
