¹³ Then behold, ^(A)the Lord was standing ^[a]above it and said, “I am the Lord, ^(B)the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give ^(C)to you and to ^(D)your ^[b]descendants. ¹⁴ Your ^[c]descendants will also be like ^(E)the dust of the earth, and you will ^[d]spread out ^(F)to the west and to the east, and to the north and to the south; and ^(G)in you and in your ^[e]descendants shall all the families of the earth be blessed. ¹⁵ Behold, ^(H)I am with you and ^(I)will keep you wherever you go, and ^(J)will bring you back to this land; for ^(K)I will not leave you until I have done what I have ^[f]promised you.” ¹⁶ Then Jacob ^(L)awoke from his sleep and said, “^(M)The Lord is certainly in this place, and I did not know it!” ¹⁷ And he was afraid and said, “^(N)How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!”

¹⁸ So Jacob got up early in the morning, and took ^(O)the stone that he had placed as a support for his head, and set it up as a memorial stone, and poured oil on its top. ¹⁹ Then he named that place ^[g](P)Bethel; but ^[h]previously the name of the city had been ^(Q)Luz.

^10 (A)God said to him,

So He called ^[b]him Israel. ¹¹ God also said to him,

¹³ Then ^(G)God went up from him at the place where He had spoken with him. ¹⁴ So Jacob set up ^(H)a memorial stone in the place where He had spoken with him, a memorial of stone, and he poured out a drink offering on it; he also poured oil on it. ¹⁵ And Jacob named the place where God had spoken with him, ^[h](I)Bethel.
