³⁰ Now you have gone off because you longed to return to your father’s household.^(A) But why did you steal^(B) my gods?^(C)”

³² But if you find anyone who has your gods, that person shall not live.^(A) In the presence of our relatives, see for yourself whether there is anything of yours here with me; and if so, take it.” Now Jacob did not know that Rachel had stolen the gods.^(B)

³⁴ Now Rachel had taken the household gods^(A) and put them inside her camel’s saddle^(B) and was sitting on them. Laban searched^(C) through everything in the tent but found nothing.

³⁵ Rachel said to her father, “Don’t be angry, my lord, that I cannot stand up in your presence;^(D) I’m having my period.^(E)” So he searched but could not find the household gods.^(F)

² So Jacob said to his household^(A) and to all who were with him, “Get rid of the foreign gods^(B) you have with you, and purify yourselves and change your clothes.^(C)

¹⁴ “Now fear the Lord^(A) and serve him with all faithfulness.^(B) Throw away the gods^(C) your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt,^(D) and serve the Lord.

⁵ Now this man Micah had a shrine,^(A) and he made an ephod^(B) and some household gods^(C) and installed^(D) one of his sons as his priest.^(E)

¹⁴ Then the five men who had spied out the land of Laish^(A) said to their fellow Danites, “Do you know that one of these houses has an ephod,^(B) some household gods and an image overlaid with silver?^(C) Now you know what to do.”

¹⁷ The five men who had spied out the land went inside and took the idol, the ephod and the household gods^(A) while the priest and the six hundred armed men^(B) stood at the entrance of the gate.

²⁴ He replied, “You took^(A) the gods I made, and my priest, and went away. What else do I have? How can you ask, ‘What’s the matter with you?’”
