² Take with you seven pairs of every kind of clean^(A) animal, a male and its mate, and one pair of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate,

⁵⁰ The priest is to examine the affected area^(A) and isolate the article for seven days.

³¹ “‘You must keep the Israelites separate from things that make them unclean, so they will not die in their uncleanness for defiling my dwelling place,^[a](A) which is among them.’”

¹⁹ Therefore this is what the Lord says:

¹¹ “This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘Ask the priests^(A) what the law says: ¹² If someone carries consecrated meat^(B) in the fold of their garment, and that fold touches some bread or stew, some wine, olive oil or other food, does it become consecrated?^(C)’”

The priests answered, “No.”

¹³ Then Haggai said, “If a person defiled by contact with a dead body touches one of these things, does it become defiled?”

“Yes,” the priests replied, “it becomes defiled.^(D)”
