17 For the (A)violence [a]done to Lebanon will cover you,
And the devastation of its beasts [b]by which you terrified them,
(B)Because of human bloodshed and (C)violence [c]done to the land,
To the town and all its inhabitants.

18 “What (D)profit is the graven image when its maker has engraved it,
Or a molten image, a (E)teacher of [d]lies?
For its maker (F)trusts in his own making
When he fashions speechless idols.
19 Woe to him who (G)says to a piece of wood, ‘(H)Awake!’
To a mute stone, ‘Arise!’
And that is your teacher?
Behold, it is overlaid with (I)gold and silver,
And there is (J)no breath at all inside it.

    Or an image(F) that teaches lies?
For the one who makes it trusts in his own creation;
    he makes idols that cannot speak.(G)
19 Woe to him who says to wood, ‘Come to life!’
    Or to lifeless stone, ‘Wake up!’(H)
Can it give guidance?
    It is covered with gold and silver;(I)
    there is no breath in it.”(J)
