⁴And no one takes this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.

⁵So also the Christ did not glorify himself to make himself high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son; today have I begotten thee.

⁶As he said also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

⁴And no one takes this honor on himself, but he receives it when called by God, just as Aaron was.^(A)

⁵In the same way, Christ did not take on himself the glory^(B) of becoming a high priest.^(C) But God said^(D) to him,

“You are my Son;
today I have become your Father.”^[a]^(E)

⁶And he says in another place,

“You are a priest forever,
in the order of Melchizedek.^(F)”^[b]^(G)
