The son becomes the priest

Nobody takes the office of priesthood on himself; you have to be called by God, just as Aaron was. In the same way, the Messiah didn’t exalt himself so that he might become a high priest. It came about through the one who said to him,

You are my son; today I have become your father.

As he says in another passage,

You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek.

And no one takes this honor on himself, but he receives it when called by God, just as Aaron was.(A)

In the same way, Christ did not take on himself the glory(B) of becoming a high priest.(C) But God said(D) to him,

“You are my Son;
    today I have become your Father.”[a](E)

And he says in another place,

“You are a priest forever,
    in the order of Melchizedek.(F)[b](G)
