Hebrews 5:4-6

⁴No one chooses himself to be high priest. But God calls him, just as he called Aaron.

⁵So Christ did not choose himself to be a high priest. But he was chosen by the One who said to him, `You are my Son, and I am your Father today.'

⁶In another place in the holy writings God said, `You are a priest for ever like Melchizedek.'

Hebrews 5:4-6

⁴And no one takes this honor on himself, but he receives it when called by God, just as Aaron was.^(A)

⁵In the same way, Christ did not take on himself the glory^(B) of becoming a high priest.^(C) But God said^(D) to him,

“You are my Son;
today I have become your Father.”^[a]^(E)

⁶And he says in another place,

“You are a priest forever,
in the order of Melchizedek.^(F)”^[b]^(G)
