Hosea 11:4-6
Good News Translation

4 I drew them to me with affection and love.
    I picked them up and held them to my cheek;
    I bent down to them and fed them.[a]

5 “They refuse to return to me, and so they must return to Egypt, and Assyria will rule them. 6 War will sweep through their cities and break down the city gates. It will destroy my people because they do what they themselves think best.

4 I led them with cords of human kindness,
    with ties of love.(A)
To them I was like one who lifts
    a little child to the cheek,
    and I bent down to feed(B) them.(C)

5 “Will they not return to Egypt(D)
    and will not Assyria(E) rule over them
    because they refuse to repent?(F)
6 A sword(G) will flash in their cities;
    it will devour(H) their false prophets
    and put an end to their plans.
