5 The land and the earth also are defiled by their inhabitants, because they have transgressed the laws, disregarded the statutes, and broken the everlasting covenant.(A)
6 Therefore a curse devours the land and the earth, and they who dwell in it suffer the punishment of their guilt. Therefore the inhabitants of the land and the earth are scorched and parched [under the curse of God’s wrath], and few people are left.(B)
7 The new wine mourns, the vine languishes; all the merrymakers sigh.

New International Version
5 The earth is defiled(A) by its people;
they have disobeyed(B) the laws,
violated the statutes
and broken the everlasting covenant.(C)
6 Therefore a curse(D) consumes the earth;
its people must bear their guilt.
Therefore earth’s inhabitants are burned up,(E)
and very few are left.
7 The new wine dries up(F) and the vine withers;(G)
all the merrymakers groan.(H)
