2 (A)Who walk to go down to Egypt,
And (B)have not asked My advice,
To strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh,
And to trust in the shadow of Egypt!
3 (C)Therefore the strength of Pharaoh
Shall be your shame,
And trust in the shadow of Egypt
Shall be your humiliation.
4 For his princes were at (D)Zoan,
And his ambassadors came to Hanes.
5 (E)They were all ashamed of a people who could not benefit them,
Or be help or benefit,
But a shame and also a reproach.”
6 (F)The [a]burden against the beasts of the South.
Through a land of trouble and anguish,
From which came the lioness and lion,
(G)The viper and fiery flying serpent,
They will carry their riches on the backs of young donkeys,
And their treasures on the humps of camels,
To a people who shall not profit;
7 (H)For the Egyptians shall help in vain and to no purpose.
Therefore I have called her
[b]Rahab-Hem-Shebeth.

without consulting(B) me;
who look for help to Pharaoh’s protection,(C)
to Egypt’s shade for refuge.(D)
3 But Pharaoh’s protection will be to your shame,
Egypt’s shade(E) will bring you disgrace.(F)
4 Though they have officials in Zoan(G)
and their envoys have arrived in Hanes,
5 everyone will be put to shame
because of a people(H) useless(I) to them,
who bring neither help(J) nor advantage,
but only shame and disgrace.(K)”
6 A prophecy(L) concerning the animals of the Negev:(M)
Through a land of hardship and distress,(N)
of lions(O) and lionesses,
of adders and darting snakes,(P)
the envoys carry their riches on donkeys’(Q) backs,
their treasures(R) on the humps of camels,
to that unprofitable nation,
7 to Egypt, whose help is utterly useless.(S)
Therefore I call her
Rahab(T) the Do-Nothing.
