12 [a]They shall call the nobles thereof to the kingdom, but none shall be there; and all its princes shall be nothing. 13 And thorns shall come up in its palaces, nettles and thistles in the fortresses thereof; and it shall be a habitation of jackals, a court for ostriches. 14 And the wild beasts of the desert shall meet with the [b]wolves, and the wild goat shall cry to his fellow; yea, [c]the night-monster shall settle there, and shall find her a place of rest.

12 Her nobles will have nothing there to be called a kingdom,
all her princes(A) will vanish(B) away.
13 Thorns(C) will overrun her citadels,
nettles and brambles her strongholds.(D)
She will become a haunt for jackals,(E)
a home for owls.(F)
14 Desert creatures(G) will meet with hyenas,(H)
and wild goats will bleat to each other;
there the night creatures(I) will also lie down
and find for themselves places of rest.
