16 He burns half of it in the fire. Over this half he eats meat as he makes it ready, and is filled. He also warms himself and says, “O, I am warm. I see the fire.” 17 But he makes the rest of it into a god, his object of worship. He bows down in front of it and worships. He prays to it and says, “Bring me out of my trouble, for you are my god.”

18 They do not know, and they do not understand. For the Lord has covered their eyes so that they cannot see and their hearts so that they cannot understand.

    over it he prepares his meal,
    he roasts his meat and eats his fill.
He also warms himself and says,
    “Ah! I am warm; I see the fire.(A)
17 From the rest he makes a god, his idol;
    he bows down to it and worships.(B)
He prays(C) to it and says,
    “Save(D) me! You are my god!”
18 They know nothing, they understand(E) nothing;
    their eyes(F) are plastered over so they cannot see,
    and their minds closed so they cannot understand.
