New English Translation
12 I made the earth;
I created the people who live[a] on it.
It was me—my hands[b] stretched out the sky.[c]
I give orders to all the heavenly lights.[d]
13 It is me—I stir him up and commission him;[e]
I will make all his ways level.
He will rebuild my city;
he will send my exiled people home,
but not for a price or a bribe,”
says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.
The Lord is the Nations’ Only Hope
14 This is what the Lord says:
“The profit[f] of Egypt and the revenue[g] of Ethiopia,
along with the Sabeans, those tall men,
will be brought to you[h] and become yours.
They will walk behind you, coming along in chains.[i]
They will bow down to you
and pray to you:[j]
‘Truly God is with[k] you; he has no peer;[l]
there is no other God!’”

- Isaiah 45:14 sn Restored Israel is depicted here in typical ancient Near Eastern fashion as an imperial power that receives riches and slaves as tribute.
- Isaiah 45:14 sn Israel’s vassals are portrayed as so intimidated and awed that they treat Israel as an intermediary to God or sub-deity.
- Isaiah 45:14 tn Or perhaps, “among.” Cf. KJV, ASV “Surely God is in thee.”
- Isaiah 45:14 tn Heb “there is no other” (so NIV, NRSV). The same phrase occurs at the end of v. 18, in v. 21, and at the end of v. 22.

12 It is I who made the earth(A)
and created mankind on it.
My own hands stretched out the heavens;(B)
I marshaled their starry hosts.(C)
13 I will raise up Cyrus[a](D) in my righteousness:
I will make all his ways straight.(E)
He will rebuild my city(F)
and set my exiles free,
but not for a price or reward,(G)
says the Lord Almighty.”
14 This is what the Lord says:
“The products(H) of Egypt and the merchandise of Cush,[b]
and those tall Sabeans(I)—
they will come over to you(J)
and will be yours;
they will trudge behind you,(K)
coming over to you in chains.(L)
They will bow down before you
and plead(M) with you, saying,
‘Surely God is with you,(N) and there is no other;
there is no other god.(O)’”
