Isaiah 48:7-9
New English Translation
7 Now they come into being,[a] not in the past;
before today you did not hear about them,
so you could not say,
‘Yes,[b] I know about them.’
8 You did not hear,
you do not know,
you were not told beforehand.[c]
For I know that you are very deceitful;[d]
you were labeled[e] a rebel from birth.
9 For the sake of my reputation[f] I hold back my anger;
for the sake of my prestige[g] I restrain myself from destroying you.[h]

New International Version
7 They are created(A) now, and not long ago;(B)
you have not heard of them before today.
So you cannot say,
‘Yes, I knew(C) of them.’
8 You have neither heard nor understood;(D)
from of old your ears(E) have not been open.
Well do I know how treacherous(F) you are;
you were called a rebel(G) from birth.
9 For my own name’s sake(H) I delay my wrath;(I)
for the sake of my praise I hold it back from you,
so as not to destroy you completely.(J)
