until they recognize their guilt and seek My face;(A)
they will search for Me in their distress.(B)

A Call to Repentance

Come, let us return to the Lord.(C)
For He has torn us,(D)
and He will heal us;(E)
He has wounded us,
and He will bind up our wounds.(F)
He will revive us after two days,(G)
and on the third day He will raise us up
so we can live in His presence.(H)
Let us strive to know the Lord.(I)
His appearance is as sure as the dawn.(J)
He will come to us like the rain,(K)
like the spring showers that water the land.

15 Then I will return to my lair(A)
    until they have borne their guilt(B)
    and seek my face(C)
in their misery(D)
    they will earnestly seek me.(E)

Israel Unrepentant

“Come, let us return(F) to the Lord.
He has torn us to pieces(G)
    but he will heal us;(H)
he has injured us
    but he will bind up our wounds.(I)
After two days he will revive us;(J)
    on the third day(K) he will restore(L) us,
    that we may live in his presence.
Let us acknowledge the Lord;
    let us press on to acknowledge him.
As surely as the sun rises,
    he will appear;
he will come to us like the winter rains,(M)
    like the spring rains that water the earth.(N)

A Plea to Repent

14 Israel, return to Yahweh your God,(A)
for you have stumbled in your sin.(B)
Take words of repentance with you(C)
and return to the Lord.
Say to Him: “Forgive all our sin
and accept what is good,
so that we may repay You
with praise[a] from our[b] lips.(D)
Assyria will not save us,(E)
we will not ride on horses,(F)
and we will no longer proclaim, ‘Our gods!’(G)
to the work of our hands.(H)
For the fatherless receives compassion in You.”(I)

Take words with you

    we will not mount warhorses.(H)
We will never again say ‘Our gods’(I)
    to what our own hands have made,(J)
    for in you the fatherless(K) find compassion.”
