²⁴ Then the Lord rained down burning sulfur^(A) on Sodom and Gomorrah^(B)—from the Lord out of the heavens.^{(C) 25} Thus he overthrew those cities^(D) and the entire plain,^(E) destroying all those living in the cities—and also the vegetation in the land.^{(F) 26} But Lot’s wife looked back,^(G) and she became a pillar of salt.^(H)

²⁷ Early the next morning Abraham got up and returned to the place where he had stood before the Lord.^{(I) 28} He looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah, toward all the land of the plain, and he saw dense smoke rising from the land, like smoke from a furnace.^(J)

²⁹ So when God destroyed the cities of the plain,^(K) he remembered^(L) Abraham, and he brought Lot out of the catastrophe^(M) that overthrew the cities where Lot had lived.^(N)

²³ The whole land will be a burning waste^(A) of salt^(B) and sulfur—nothing planted, nothing sprouting, no vegetation growing on it. It will be like the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah,^(C) Admah and Zeboyim, which the Lord overthrew in fierce anger.^(D)
