⁸ For the Lord has a day of vengeance,^(A)
a time of paying back Edom
for its hostility against Zion.

²⁴ Seventy weeks^[a] are decreed^(A)
about your people and your holy city—
to bring the rebellion to an end,
to put a stop to sin,
to wipe away iniquity,
to bring in everlasting righteousness,^(B)
to seal up vision and prophecy,
and to anoint the most holy place.
²⁵ Know and understand this:
From the issuing of the decree
to restore and rebuild Jerusalem^(C)
until Messiah^(D) the Prince^[b]
will be seven weeks and 62 weeks.^[c]
It will be rebuilt with a plaza and a moat,
but in difficult times.
²⁶ After those 62 weeks^[d]
the Messiah will be cut off^(E)
and will have nothing.
The people of the coming prince
will destroy the city^(F) and the sanctuary.
The^[e] end will come with a flood,^(G)
and until the end there will be^[f] war;
desolations are decreed.
²⁷ He will make a firm covenant^[g]
with many for one week,^[h]
but in the middle of the week
he will put a stop to sacrifice and offering.
And the abomination of desolation^(H)
will be on a wing^(I) of the temple^[i][j]
until the decreed destruction^(J)
is poured out on the desolator.”

⁷ The days of punishment have come;^(A)
the days of retribution have come.^(B)
Let Israel recognize it!
The prophet is a fool,^(C)
and the inspired man is insane,^(D)
because of the magnitude
of your guilt and hostility.^(E)
