²⁵ “I have stirred^(A) up one from the north,^(B) and he comes—
    one from the rising sun who calls on my name.
He treads^(C) on rulers as if they were mortar,
    as if he were a potter treading the clay.

⁴ Listen, a noise on the mountains,
    like that of a great multitude!^(A)
Listen, an uproar^(B) among the kingdoms,
    like nations massing together!
The Lord Almighty^(C) is mustering^(D)
    an army for war.

¹⁷ See, I will stir up^(A) against them the Medes,^(B)
    who do not care for silver
    and have no delight in gold.^(C)

²⁸ who says of Cyrus,^(A) ‘He is my shepherd
    and will accomplish all that I please;
he will say of Jerusalem,^(B) “Let it be rebuilt,”
    and of the temple,^(C) “Let its foundations^(D) be laid.”’

45 “This is what the Lord says to his anointed,^(A)
    to Cyrus,^(B) whose right hand I take hold^(C) of
to subdue nations^(D) before him
    and to strip kings of their armor,
to open doors before him
    so that gates will not be shut:

¹³ I will raise up Cyrus^[a](A) in my righteousness:
    I will make all his ways straight.^(B)
He will rebuild my city^(C)
    and set my exiles free,
but not for a price or reward,^(D)
    says the Lord Almighty.”

¹⁴ “Come together,^(A) all of you, and listen:
    Which of the idols has foretold^(B) these things?
The Lord’s chosen ally^(C)
    will carry out his purpose^(D) against Babylon;^(E)
    his arm will be against the Babylonians.^[a]

³ A nation from the north^(A) will attack her
    and lay waste her land.
No one will live^(B) in it;
    both people and animals^(C) will flee away.

¹¹ “Sharpen the arrows,^(A)
    take up the shields!^(B)
The Lord has stirred up the kings^(C) of the Medes,^(D)
    because his purpose^(E) is to destroy Babylon.
The Lord will take vengeance,^(F)
    vengeance for his temple.^(G)
