¹⁴ And he will become a ^(A)sanctuary and ^(B)a stone of offence and a rock of stumbling to both houses of Israel, a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

⁴⁴ And ^(A)the one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; and ^(B)when it falls on anyone, it will crush him.”^[a]

³⁹ Jesus said, ^(A)“For judgement I came into this world, ^(B)that those who do not see may see, and ^(C)those who see may become blind.”

²³ but we preach Christ ^(A)crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, ²⁴ but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ ^(B)the power of God and ^(C)the wisdom of God.

^16 (A)to one a fragrance from death to death, ^(B)to the other a fragrance from life to life. ^(C)Who is sufficient^[a] for these things?

They stumble because they disobey the word, ^(B)as they were destined to do.

⁹ But you are ^(C)a chosen race, ^(D)a royal ^(E)priesthood, ^(F)a holy nation, ^(G)a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you ^(H)out of darkness into ^(I)his marvellous light.
