16 And I will announce my judgments against my people
    because of their evil in ·turning away from [abandoning; forsaking] me.
They ·offered sacrifices [or burned incense] to other gods
    and ·worshiped [bowed down to] ·idols they had made with [L the works of] their own hands.

17 “Jeremiah, ·get ready [brace yourself; L gird up your loins]. Stand up and tell them everything I command you to say. Don’t be afraid of the people, or I will give you good reason to be afraid of them. 18 Today I am going to make you a ·strong [fortified] city, an iron pillar, a bronze wall. You will be able to stand against everyone in the land: Judah’s kings, officers, priests, and the people of the land.

17 “Get yourself ready! Stand up and say(G) to them whatever I command you. Do not be terrified(H) by them, or I will terrify you before them. 18 Today I have made you(I) a fortified city, an iron pillar and a bronze wall to stand against the whole land—against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests and the people of the land.
