3 For the statutes of the peoples are (A)vanity
Because (B)it is wood cut from the forest,
The work of the hands of a craftsman with a cutting tool.
4 They (C)make it beautiful with silver and with gold;
They (D)strengthen it with nails and with hammers
So that it will not totter.
5 Like a scarecrow in a cucumber field are they,
And they (E)cannot speak;
They must be (F)carried
Because they cannot take a step!
Do not fear them,
For they (G)can do no harm,
Nor can they do any good.”

3 For the practices of the peoples are worthless;
they cut a tree out of the forest,
and a craftsman(A) shapes it with his chisel.(B)
4 They adorn it with silver(C) and gold;
they fasten it with hammer and nails
so it will not totter.(D)
5 Like a scarecrow in a cucumber field,
their idols cannot speak;(E)
they must be carried
because they cannot walk.(F)
Do not fear them;
they can do no harm(G)
nor can they do any good.”(H)
