17 “The Lord of Armies who planted you(A) has decreed disaster against you, because of the disaster[a] the house of Israel and the house of Judah brought on themselves when they angered me by burning incense to Baal.”

18 The Lord informed me, so I knew.
Then you helped me to see their deeds,
19 for I was like a docile[b] lamb led to slaughter.(B)
I didn’t know that they had devised plots against me:
“Let’s destroy the tree with its fruit;[c]
let’s cut him off from the land of the living(C)
so that his name will no longer be remembered.”

18 Because the Lord revealed their plot to me, I knew it, for at that time he showed me what they were doing. 19 I had been like a gentle lamb led to the slaughter;(E) I did not realize that they had plotted(F) against me, saying,

“Let us destroy the tree and its fruit;
    let us cut him off from the land of the living,(G)
    that his name be remembered(H) no more.”
