4 You shall loosen your hand[a] from your heritage which I gave to you, and I will make you serve your enemies in a land which you do not know, for in my anger a fire is kindled which shall burn for ever.”
5 Thus says the Lord:
“Cursed is the man who trusts in man
and makes flesh his arm,
whose heart turns away from the Lord.
6 He is like a shrub in the desert,
and shall not see any good come.
He shall dwell in the parched places of the wilderness,
in an uninhabited salt land.

4 Through your own fault you will lose
the inheritance(A) I gave you.
I will enslave you to your enemies(B)
in a land(C) you do not know,
for you have kindled my anger,
and it will burn(D) forever.”
5 This is what the Lord says:

who draws strength from mere flesh
and whose heart turns away from the Lord.(F)
6 That person will be like a bush in the wastelands;
they will not see prosperity when it comes.
They will dwell in the parched places(G) of the desert,
in a salt(H) land where no one lives.
