16 To make their land a (A)desolation,
An object of perpetual (B)hissing;
Everyone who passes by it will be astonished
And (C)shake his head.
17 ‘Like an (D)east wind I will (E)scatter them
Before the enemy;
I will [a]show them (F)My back and not My face
(G)In the day of their calamity.’”

18 Then they said, “Come and let us (H)devise plans against Jeremiah. Surely the (I)law is not going to be lost to the priest, nor (J)counsel to the sage, nor the divine (K)word to the prophet! Come on and let us (L)strike at him with our tongue, and let us (M)give no heed to any of his words.”
