18 “But now what are you doing (A)on the road to Egypt,
To drink the waters of the [a](B)Nile?
Or what are you doing on the road to Assyria,
To drink the waters of the [b]Euphrates?
19 “(C)Your own wickedness will correct you,
And your (D)apostasies will reprove you;
Know therefore and see that it is evil and (E)bitter
For you to forsake the Lord your God,
And (F)the dread of Me is not in you,” declares the Lord [c]God of hosts.
20 “For long ago [d](G)I broke your yoke
And tore off your bonds;
But you said, ‘I will not serve!’
For on every (H)high hill
And under every green tree
You have lain down as a harlot.

Consider then and realize
how evil and bitter(G) it is for you
when you forsake(H) the Lord your God
and have no awe(I) of me,”
declares the Lord, the Lord Almighty.
