9 Then they will [a]answer, ‘Because they (A)abandoned the covenant of the Lord their God and bowed down to other gods and served them.’”
10 (B)Do not weep for the dead or mourn for him,
But weep deeply for the one who goes away;
For (C)he will never return
Or see his native land.
11 For this is what the Lord says regarding [b](D)Shallum the son of Josiah, king of Judah, who became king in the place of his father Josiah, who went out from this place: “He will never return there;

9 And the answer will be: ‘Because they have forsaken the covenant of the Lord their God and have worshiped and served other gods.(A)’”
10 Do not weep for the dead(B) king or mourn(C) his loss;
rather, weep bitterly for him who is exiled,
because he will never return(D)
nor see his native land again.
11 For this is what the Lord says about Shallum[a](E) son of Josiah, who succeeded his father as king of Judah but has gone from this place: “He will never return.
