²⁶ How long will this continue in the hearts of these lying prophets, who prophesy the delusions^(A) of their own minds?^(B)

⁹ I will summon^(A) all the peoples of the north^(B) and my servant^(C) Nebuchadnezzar^(D) king of Babylon,” declares the Lord, “and I will bring them against this land and its inhabitants and against all the surrounding nations. I will completely destroy^[a](E) them and make them an object of horror and scorn,^(F) and an everlasting ruin.^(G)

⁹ Why do you prophesy in the Lord’s name that this house will be like Shiloh and this city will be desolate and deserted?”^(A) And all the people crowded^(B) around Jeremiah in the house of the Lord.

²⁹ Also tell Jehoiakim king of Judah, ‘This is what the Lord says: You burned that scroll and said, “Why did you write on it that the king of Babylon would certainly come and destroy this land and wipe from it^(A) both man and beast?”^(B)

⁷ Have you not seen false visions^(A) and uttered lying divinations when you say, “The Lord declares,” though I have not spoken?

¹⁸ For such people are not serving our Lord Christ,^(A) but their own appetites.^(B) By smooth talk and flattery they deceive^(C) the minds of naive people.

³ For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine.^(A) Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.^{(B) 4} They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.^(C)
