Hananiah’s False Prophecy

28 In that same year, at the beginning of the reign of King Zedekiah of Judah,^(A) in the fifth month of the fourth year, the prophet Hananiah son of Azzur from Gibeon^(B) said to me in the temple of the Lord in the presence of the priests and all the people,

¹⁷ Jeremiah therefore said to Zedekiah, “This is what the Lord, the God of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘If indeed you surrender to the officials of the king of Babylon,^(A) then you will live, this city will not be burned down, and you and your household will survive.
