17 They left, stopping in Geruth Chimham,(A) which is near Bethlehem, in order to make their way into Egypt, 18 away from the Chaldeans. For they feared them because Ishmael son of Nethaniah had struck down Gedaliah son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon had appointed over the land.(B)

17 And they went on, stopping at Geruth Kimham(A) near Bethlehem(B) on their way to Egypt(C) 18 to escape the Babylonians.[a] They were afraid(D) of them because Ishmael son of Nethaniah had killed Gedaliah(E) son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon had appointed as governor over the land.
