2 Azariah, Hoshaiah’s son, and Johanan, Kareah’s son, and all the arrogant men said to Jeremiah, “You’re lying to us! The Lord our God didn’t send you to tell us not to go to Egypt to live. 3 It’s Baruch, Neriah’s son, who put you up to it so that we end up in the hands of the Babylonians, who will either kill us or deport us to Babylon.”
4 So Johanan, Kareah’s son, and all the army officers and the rest of the people disobeyed the Lord’s command to stay in the land of Judah.

2 Azariah son of Hoshaiah(A) and Johanan(B) son of Kareah and all the arrogant(C) men said to Jeremiah, “You are lying!(D) The Lord our God has not sent you to say, ‘You must not go to Egypt to settle there.’(E) 3 But Baruch(F) son of Neriah is inciting you against us to hand us over to the Babylonians,[a] so they may kill us or carry us into exile to Babylon.”(G)
4 So Johanan son of Kareah and all the army officers and all the people(H) disobeyed the Lord’s command(I) to stay in the land of Judah.(J)
