Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the insolent men spoke,[a] saying to Jeremiah, “You are telling a lie! Yahweh our God did not send you, saying,[b] ‘You must not go to Egypt to dwell as aliens there.’ But Baruch the son of Neriah is inciting you against us in order to give us into the hand of the Chaldeans, to kill us and to deport us to Babylon.”

So Johanan the son of Kareah and all the commanders of the armies, and all the people did not listen[c] to the voice of Yahweh to stay in the land of Judah.

Azariah son of Hoshaiah(A) and Johanan(B) son of Kareah and all the arrogant(C) men said to Jeremiah, “You are lying!(D) The Lord our God has not sent you to say, ‘You must not go to Egypt to settle there.’(E) But Baruch(F) son of Neriah is inciting you against us to hand us over to the Babylonians,[a] so they may kill us or carry us into exile to Babylon.”(G)

So Johanan son of Kareah and all the army officers and all the people(H) disobeyed the Lord’s command(I) to stay in the land of Judah.(J)
