Jeremiah 9:7-9
Tree of Life Version
7 Their tongue is a deadly arrow,
speaking deceit.
With his mouth
each says shalom to his neighbor,
while inwardly setting a trap for him.
8 For such things shall I not punish them?”
It is a declaration of Adonai.
“Should I not avenge Myself
on such a nation as this?”
9 For the mountains I lift up weeping and wailing,
a lament for the desert pastures.
For they are so scorched
that no one passes through—
the lowing of cattle is not heard.
The birds of the air have fled
and the animals are gone.
Jeremiah 9:7-9
New International Version
7 Therefore this is what the Lord Almighty says:
“See, I will refine(A) and test(B) them,
for what else can I do
because of the sin of my people?
8 Their tongue(C) is a deadly arrow;
it speaks deceitfully.
With their mouths they all speak cordially to their neighbors,(D)
but in their hearts they set traps(E) for them.(F)
9 Should I not punish them for this?”
declares the Lord.
“Should I not avenge(G) myself
on such a nation as this?”
