² Now at that time the army of the king of Babylon was besieging Jerusalem, and Jeremiah the prophet was imprisoned in the ^(A)courtyard of the guard, which was at the house of the king of Judah, ³ because Zedekiah king of Judah had ^(B)imprisoned him, saying, “Why do you ^(C)prophesy, saying, ‘^(D)This is what the Lord says: “Behold, I am going to ^(E)hand this city over to the king of Babylon, and he will take it;

¹⁵ Then the officials were ^(A)angry at Jeremiah and they beat him, and ^(B)put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe, for they had made it into the prison.
