²² Is there no balm in Gilead?^(A)
    Is there no physician^(B) there?
Why then is there no healing^(C)
    for the wound of my people?

¹⁹ Have you rejected Judah completely?^(A)
    Do you despise Zion?
Why have you afflicted us
    so that we cannot be healed?^(B)
We hoped for peace
    but no good has come,
for a time of healing
    but there is only terror.^(C)

¹¹ “Go up to Gilead and get balm,^(A)
    Virgin^(B) Daughter Egypt.
But you try many medicines in vain;
    there is no healing^(C) for you.

¹⁹ Nothing can heal you;^(A)
    your wound is fatal.
All who hear the news about you
    clap their hands^(B) at your fall,
for who has not felt
    your endless cruelty?^(C)
