19 when a storm swept in from the desert. It blew the house down and killed them all. I am the only one who escaped to tell you.”

20 Then Job got up and tore his clothes in grief. He shaved his head and threw himself face downward on the ground. 21 (A)He said, “I was born with nothing, and I will die with nothing. The Lord gave, and now he has taken away. May his name be praised!”

19 when suddenly a mighty wind(A) swept in from the desert and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on them and they are dead,(B) and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!(C)

20 At this, Job got up and tore his robe(D) and shaved his head.(E) Then he fell to the ground in worship(F) 21 and said:

“Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
    and naked I will depart.[a](G)
The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away;(H)
    may the name of the Lord be praised.”(I)
