It was the Mary who anointed the Lord with perfume and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.(A) So the sisters sent word to Him, saying, “Lord, he [our brother and Your friend] whom You love is sick.” When Jesus heard this, He said, “This sickness will not end in death; but [on the contrary it is] for the glory and honor of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified by it.”

(This Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick, was the same one who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair.)(A) So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Lord, the one you love(B) is sick.”

When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory(C) so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.”
