John 19:29-31

29 A jar full of sour wine was sitting there. So they put a sponge soaked in sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth.
30 When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished!” Then, bowing his head, he gave up his spirit.

31 Since it was the Preparation Day, the Jews did not want the bodies left on the crosses over the Sabbath (because that Sabbath was a particularly important day). They asked Pilate to have the men’s legs broken and the bodies taken away.

New International Version
29 A jar of wine vinegar(A) was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. 30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.”(B) With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
31 Now it was the day of Preparation,(C) and the next day was to be a special Sabbath. Because the Jewish leaders did not want the bodies left on the crosses(D) during the Sabbath, they asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies taken down.
