40 Then they took the body of Jesus and wound it in linen cloths with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury. 41 And in the place where Jesus was crucified was a garden, and in the garden a new sepulchre, in which no man had ever been laid. 42 There they laid Jesus, because of the Jews’ Sabbath eve. For the sepulchre was near at hand.

40 Taking Jesus’ body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen.(A) This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs.(B) 41 At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid. 42 Because it was the Jewish day of Preparation(C) and since the tomb was nearby,(D) they laid Jesus there.
