38 As I speak, I am painting you a picture of what I have seen with My Father; here you are repeating the things you have seen from your father.
Jews: 39 Abraham is our father.
Jesus: If you are truly Abraham’s children, then act like Abraham! 40 From what I see you are trying to kill Me, a man who has told you the truth that comes from the Father. This is not something Abraham would do,

38 I am telling you what I have seen in the Father’s presence,(A) and you are doing what you have heard from your father.[a]”(B)
39 “Abraham is our father,” they answered.
“If you were Abraham’s children,”(C) said Jesus, “then you would[b] do what Abraham did. 40 As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me,(D) a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God.(E) Abraham did not do such things.
