¹⁸ I will not leave you as orphans;^(A) I will come to you.^(B)

²⁸ “You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’^(A) If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father,^(B) for the Father is greater than I.^(C)

²² Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return,^(A) what is that to you? You must follow me.”^{(B) 23} Because of this, the rumor spread among the believers^(C) that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he only said, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?”
