^44 (A)You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. ^(B)He was a murderer from the beginning, and ^(C)has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. ^(D)When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

¹⁰ and said, “You ^(A)son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, full of all deceit and ^(B)villainy, will you not stop ^(C)making crooked ^(D)the straight paths of the Lord?

¹⁰ By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practise righteousness is not of God, ^(A)nor is the one who ^(B)does not love his brother.

¹⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel across sea and land to make a single ^(A)proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, you make him twice as much a ^(B)child of ^(C)hell^[a] as yourselves.

¹⁹ When anyone hears the word of ^(A)the kingdom and ^(B)does not understand it, ^(C)the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path.
