7 And he issued a proclamation and published through Nineveh, (A)“By the decree of the king and his nobles: Let neither man nor (B)beast, herd nor flock, taste anything. Let them not feed or drink water, 8 but let man and (C)beast be covered with sackcloth, and let them call out mightily to God. (D)Let everyone turn from his evil way and from (E)the violence that is in his hands. 9 (F)Who knows? God may turn and relent (G)and turn from his fierce anger, so that we may not perish.”

New International Version
7 This is the proclamation he issued in Nineveh:
“By the decree of the king and his nobles:
Do not let people or animals, herds or flocks, taste anything; do not let them eat or drink.(A) 8 But let people and animals be covered with sackcloth. Let everyone call(B) urgently on God. Let them give up(C) their evil ways(D) and their violence.(E) 9 Who knows?(F) God may yet relent(G) and with compassion turn(H) from his fierce anger(I) so that we will not perish.”
